With the Hottest Deals in Golf
For many folks, the idea of a long drive in the car before they get a chance at a long drive off the first tee is the worst thing about golf trips. That's why the Shenandoah Valley appeals to so many players in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The golf-rich area is within a two-hour radius of Richmond and Northern VA, as well as many parts of Maryland and Central PA.
There are a dozen or more top courses to choose from, among them Jackson's Chase Golf Club. The 6,513-yard layout in Front Royal, VA, sits on 300 acres of beautiful rolling terrain adjacent to I-66, with panoramic views of Signal Knob and the surrounding mountains. It is on this very site that Lt. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson began his pursuit of Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks' fleeing Union troops in 1862. But today, oversized drivers and cavity-backed irons have replaced Civil War muskets and cannons as the weapons of choice around here.
Golfers will find a good mix of holes. Some allow you to bounce short shots onto the greens while others require full carries over the property's ravines and gorges. The layout also shuffles holes where players can boom drives off the tee to wide landing areas with those that are tight and put a premium on accuracy.
If you're looking for a signature hole, Jackson's Chase has several to choose from. Number 8 is a par 5 that plays under 500 yards to an elevated green on the far side of a gully. The 11th is a picturesque par 3 that plays downhill over a lovely lake to a severely sloped green with a large crest in the center. And the par-5, 478-yard No. 13 is a great risk-reward type hole with water on the left and a narrow opening leading up the green. Each of Jackson's Chase's holes have a unique character, so picking a favorite might come down to the one you birdie or eagle.
With breathtaking vistas and history at every turn, there's no reason to hurry your stay in the Shenandoah Valley. Fortunately, like Jackson's Chase, just about every golf course in the area participates in Tee Time Golf Pass -- the Mid-Atlantic's #1 player passbook. Less than a day's march away -- or 10-30 minutes by car -- you'll find such favorites as Rock Harbor, Bryce Resort, Shenvalee, Blue Ridge Shadows, Bowling Green, Front Royal and Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. Or stay on I-81 a little longer and you'll discover Heritage Oaks, Lakeview, Massanutten Resort, Packsaddle Ridge, Ingleside and The Club at Ironwood.
In fact, throughout Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia and West Virginia, Tee Time Golf Pass members will find hundreds of courses ranging from local favorites to regional and destination hotspots like Ocean City, Atlantic City, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Pinehurst and Myrtle Beach. At each course, Tee Time members save $10-$50 every time they tee up.
